MODU ART THEATER

Opening to All
Modu Art Theater is the first performance venue in Korea created specifically for disabled artists, fostering creation, development, and exchange activities. The theater offers an environment where disabled artists and technical staff can work without physical limitations, ensuring convenience and accessibility throughout the creation process, performances, and operational services.
Embracing All
Modu Art Theater fosters an environment where disabled artists can develop their skills and create exceptional works. By offering rehearsal rooms and the performance venue for rent year-round, we provide a stable platform for artists to present their work. We also offer a variety of barrier-free performances and programs, run a professional training course for accessibility service experts, and develop specialized performances for disabled artists.
Uniting All
Modu Art Theater provides a platform for collaboration and interaction, enabling disabled artists to participate in various fields of art. By encouraging citizen participation, we contribute to the promotion of diversity and inclusiveness in the arts. As a cultural and artistic venue, we are committed to enhancing accessibility for disabled individuals and fulfilling our public role in the arts.

Floor Information

Modu Art Theater has been designed with a flat surface, eliminating level differences to ensure free movement for individuals with mobility challenges. All floors are accessible by elevator, and the theater is equipped with necessary facilities for disabled visitors.

Performance Projects

The performance projects of Modu Art Theater are centered around two main pillars: "Accessibility" and "Diversity." The theater incorporates sign language interpretation, subtitles, audio descriptions, and touch tours to create performances tailored to different types of disabilities. In particular, we develop and present works, including relaxed performances, which are still underdeveloped in Korea, to allow more individuals with disabilities to enjoy cultural experiences. Furthermore, We offer a range of barrier-free programs to support the ongoing development of disability arts infrastructure.

Venue Rental Services

Modu Art Theater secures a large number of rehearsal spaces, which have long been the biggest desire of disabled performing artists, and makes them available for rental year-round. The theater also provides stable presentation spaces and operational services through theater rentals, helping disabled artists thrive in their creative activities. In addition, we offer studios, M lounge, and conference rooms for small-scale presentations, seminars, educational, and exchange activities necessary for artistic endeavors.

HISTORY

The Korea Disability Arts and Culture Center (KDAC) was established in March 2015 to promote disability arts and culture and to manage the Disability Arts and Culture Center (Ieum Center).

In 2021, KDAC was designated as the lead agency under the Act on Support for Cultural and Artistic Activities of Persons with Disabilities, tasked with developing policies and conducting various support projects for disabled artists.

KDAC promotes projects to enhance the creative activities and capacity-building of disabled artists and organizations and to expand opportunities for disabled individuals to engage in cultural and artistic activities. As part of these effor

ts, KDAC opened the Modu Art Theater, a specialized performance venue for disabled artists.

The Korea Disability Arts and Culture Center will continue to contribute to the development of disability arts and culture by acting as a mediator between government and private organizations, providing comprehensive and systematic support.
